  • a hardware upgrade

Today I say goodbye to a trusted companion: my Lenovo T61

I’ve upgraded my old laptop to a newer Lenovo T510.

The biggest change will be leaving the familiar operating system of Windows XP Professional and moving to Windows 7, then transitioning to all of the Microsoft 2007 Office products and Microsoft Outlook 2007.  I wish there was no learning curve moving from XP to 7 or Office 2003 to 2007.  This is certainly not the case.  I held off long enough.  I think I was the last hold out in the organization.  Wish me luck.  Change is good.

    Change is good?

    Change is good…

  • Lenovo??? please

upgrading finally to 4 year-old Office 2007? funny. how about Office 2010 which has been out a year already. but why not free OpenOffice or Google Docs, which has no software to install, is MS Office compatible and more (PDF read/write, OCR scanning to 34 languages, Photoshop compatible, video, mobile device editing), and stores all docs in the cloud?

  • @damon - I don’t think that Office 2010 is officially supported yet by our Enterprise IT team.  I’ll get to Office 2010 in 2015 !  I miss Office 2003 but slowly adjusting to Office 2007.

On the hardware front, we don’t support any other laptop platforms in the US.  However, in Germany they offer a choice between Lenovo and Fujitsu-Siemens.  Oddly, hp is not available since 2004 or so.
